WELLNESS / ILLNESS POLICY

Heritage Christian Daycare & Learning Center is a “well-childcare” facility. Although our staff does everything possible to minimize the spread of germs and to teach good hygiene procedures to our children, reality is, children still become ill.

If your child has become ill at home, please notify the Center within 24 hours. The following would be some symptoms of illness that would exclude your child
from attending the Center:

  • nausea
  • diarrhea
  • vomiting
  • difficulty breathing
  • fever of 101 degrees or higher
  • difficulty swallowing
  • infected skin or eyes or an undiagnosed rash
  • severe itching of body or scalp
  • any known or suspected communicable disease

If your child becomes sick at the Center you will be notified and expected to pick
your child up. If you are unable to do so, alternate arrangements must be
available. While your child is waiting to be picked up, we will do everything
to make sure he/she is comfortable and away from the other children.

State Policy requires that children must be fever free for 24 hours, without the aid of fever reducing medications, before he/she can be readmitted into the Center. A note from your family practitioner may be required.

DISCIPLINE POLICIES

Discipline means to guide or to teach. Children need limits. Guidance at Heritage Christian Daycare is love oriented, not power oriented. Discipline helps the child develop the internal controls to behave appropriately. Therefore, the staff uses positive behavior management techniques to help children understand expectations for behavior.

They anticipate possible conflict situations and when necessary, intervene in a timely manner to prevent problems from occurring or escalating. Our staff creates an environment that encourages positive behavior by:

  • Defining the classroom areas
  • Planning a safe, comfortable and developmentally appropriate program
  • Establishing clear rules and reasonable limits that protect the child’s safety and welfare.
  • Using positive language to explain desired behavior, avoiding words such as don’t or no.
  • Speaking in soft conversational voices
  • Bending down to the child’s eye level when speaking
  • Avoiding calling across the room
  • Providing clear and positive suggestions, choices and redirection when necessary
  • Helping children anticipate transition to the next routine
  • Encouraging verbalization, problem-solving, self-help skills and independence.
  • Acknowledging emotions, feelings and appropriate example with our own behavior

Teachers circulate throughout the classroom and outdoor play areas, placing themselves to see the entire area at a glance and use humor, imagination, redirection and consistency to assist the children in developing self-control. Staff may utilize a cooling off time when a child is in danger of hurting himself or others. This brief period is intended as a time for the child to regain his/her self-control in order to better communicate and listen to the needs of all involved. Heritage Christian Daycare’s staff never uses corporal punishment, control, isolate, humiliate or withhold food or sleep as punishment.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

Our center is a member of Scholastic Book Clubs. Every other month a flyer, will be sent home with your child, of books targeted towards children between the ages of Infant through 5 Years. Parents can order books that they're child likes and add them to their home library. For every order a parent places, our daycare receives a free book as a thank you.
